No. 5 Low Key Wildlife
A low key wildlife video is where an animal or animals are made to standout by darkening the background which extenuates the colours and textures on the animal. These reels are a great option when the background lacks excitement and is in need of a replacement.
Can be quite difficult to create but well worth it when it works out well.
No.4 Nature's Beauty & Cruelty
To date this is my most successful reel which generate over 300k views on Facebook.
I remember seeing the egret spearfishing with it's weaponised beak and immediately I tried to capture the action in slow motion on my Canon R5 camera. to the human eye it's really difficult to see in real time whether the egret catches the tiny fish because the action is lightning quick.
After a few failed attempts my luck transpired and it's truly an honour to capture nature at its finest even though sadly it was to the detriment of the tiny fish.
3. Poetography
This is definitely my most creative reel, as a photographer at times we want our photos to speak beyond its visual limitations and the art of poetography does just that. Poetography is the art of combining photography and poetry, the creative process can be quite time consuming at is involves a great deal of editing, creating poetic sentences, and then combining everything into a reel where the pieces fit nicely.
This content is definitely worth a try given its creative and unique aspect, difficult to scroll past when it appears on your social media feed.
2. Moonlight
The reel I received the most positive feedback is this creative Halloween moon reel, what started with little expectation turned into something that even surprised myself. I initially took a series of moon photos over few days for a Halloween blog, yet during the video editing phase I became increasingly pedantic about creating something special without conclusively knowing the direction I wanted the reel to go in.
I believe the reels success is due to the visual & audio story telling aspect while simultaneously keeping it simple.
1. Flying In Slow Motion
Taking the number 1 spot is the reel which brings me the most joy to watch - bright lights caught in a time warp. The key for this video and like others on the list is the reimagining of the situation in a way the human eye cannot capture. The carousel is moving in slow motion while the people are almost suspended in the air creates a nice altered reality.
Overall it captures the essence of a carnival which is fun, joy, and excitement.
